Life moves quickly these days! My son is home from university for his summer break, my daughter is finishing up her home school year and gearing up for a summer dual enrollment university class, and there is just a lot going on, but I am smiling because it is all wonderful! Here’s what I’ve been up to and a preview of a couple of projects I want to share with you soon.
My daughter entered one of her drawings in the Congressional Art Competition. She didn’t win but her piece was displayed in the competition exhibit at an area museum. We were delighted to find her piece displayed prominently near the winners! She had never entered an art competition before and the style of her piece was very different than most, but we thought the quality of her work was on par with the other works exhibited. I was really proud of her for stepping outside of her comfort zone and entering the competition.
She decided to draw a trilobite. We have done some fossil-hunting over our years of home education so the subject, while perhaps unusual, was meaningful for our family.
Hand Made Cards for Graduation and Mother’s Day
Continuing my recent paper crafting craze, I made gift card holders for some friends who are graduating and Mother’s Day cards for my mother and mother-in-law. All of the images used on the cards are from The Graphics Fairy. I hope to share a gift card holder tutorial with you very soon!
While I often make gifts, Jay & I felt that gift cards that could be applied toward textbook rentals or purchases might be more useful to the high school graduates, so the only thing I made for them were the gift card holders. My mother and mother-in-law each received flowers and a package of hand made cards. Both ladies are senders of “snail mail” cards and writers of thank you notes, so I felt confident their gifts would be useful to them.
Because we have enjoyed the Cheesecake Parfaits and the Peanut Butter Cheesecake desserts so much, I decided to work out a chocolate version. Boy, was it good! I’ll be sharing the recipe with you soon.
