It’s good to be back!
I’m sorry for the longer-than-usual gap between posts, but I took a long weekend road trip with my daughter so she could attend a university preview weekend for prospective students. She’s only a sophomore in high school, but we learned a few things from guiding her brother through this process and two of those things were to start looking earlier and to ask more questions. We have done both and this recent weekend was part of that.
We had long drives there and back and in and out of rain, but the weather cooperated beautifully while we were on campus. We were able to take a walking tour, visit a couple of the academic departments, see a play, hear two concerts, and ask lots of questions. My daughter learned some new things about the area in which she thinks she wants to study, so even if she doesn’t end up at this university she will know what to look for elsewhere.
One thing that made me chuckle during the trip was the name of a coffee shop not too far from campus. You know I’m all for packing car picnics, but there really wasn’t a good way for me to pack my morning coffee. If I had done so I would have missed going to “Jittery Joe’s” for my morning coffee. Isn’t that a great name for a coffee place?
Shortly after we returned home from our university adventure my daughter and I had the opportunity to babysit for a friend’s young daughter. I was honored to receive an adorable picture that accurately depicted the weather outside. I most certainly needed an umbrella that evening! It’s been a long time since I had little girl pictures to enjoy, although my no-longer-little girl does let me frame and enjoy her art work.
The two girls actually colored together. My daughter completed this page from Mary Engelbreit’s Color ME book (there’s also a Color ME Too book and Color ME Christmas Coloring Book, if you’re interested). I remember discovering Mary Engelbreit’s fun, whimsical work while I was a university student, so I was tickled that my daughter was so amused by the different classic Engelbreit illustrations. (Life is Just a Chair of Bowlies, anyone?) The Color ME book had some simpler designs, which might be more relaxing than many of the more intricate patterns I’ve seen in other adult coloring books.
The last reason I’m smiling is because the kitchen is DONE! I have taken a few pictures and hope to share the before & after shots later this week, probably after the next Healthy Living Link Party, which opens Wednesday the 13th at 8:00 pm EDT.
What are you smiling about today?
