Happy Monday! I know, I know. Monday isn’t anybody’s favorite day. But I found a few things to inspire you as you start a new week.
First off, BreAnna at Crafty Coin shared an article about how she and her husband built their emergency fund in 10 months. That’s a great goal to have met and goes right along with the How to Budget series that starts here and the Emergency Fund article from that series found here at A Chat Over Coffee. When you look at BreAnna’s article, pay attention to point #7. That one thing makes a huge difference in success or failure when it comes to handling money and sticking to a budget.
I just received word that Olive Nation is having a Clearance sale! You know I love Olive Nation vanilla beans for making homemade vanilla extract and vanilla sugar. You can read about my latest kitchen adventures with vanilla here. I’m excited about this sale because I can get the bottles that I use to package and gift my homemade vanilla extract.

I also noticed when I clicked the red “Today’s Deals” tab located at the top corner of the home page that you can select a free sample item with orders over $35. The last time I ordered extra vanilla beans as my free sample, but there are lots of neat items from which to choose.
Instructions for making homemade vanilla extract are also available if you scroll to the bottom of the Olive Nation vanilla bean page.
Home Improvement Inspiration
Oh, yes! We’re still working on the house. The living room, kitchen, and powder room walls are done. We’ve painted the kitchen cabinets with a little touch-up still to be completed. We need to find a good hardware match, which has been more difficult than we anticipated, so we can get the doors and drawer fronts put back in place. The next step will be installing a tile back splash, one of the few jobs we’re hiring somebody else to do.
Here’s the new light fixture Jay installed in our powder room. We’re both really pleased with the scale of the fixture for the size of the room and with the finish next to the freshly papered and painted walls. The top image shows the fixture turned off in the daylight coming through the window. The bottom image is of the fixture turned on at night.
We purchased the fixture at Lowe’s. If you’d like something similar you could go through Ebates to get a little cash back. We’ve used Ebates quite a bit during this home improvement project, including buying our floors online. That story is available here and more pictures are on my Facebook page.
It feels like I’ve been living in a construction zone for a long time, but just telling you about it has inspired me and I hope it inspires you toward your goals. Everybody have a great week!
Inspire us! What did you accomplish last week? What are you planning to accomplish this week?
