Jay’s first sermon of the Christmas season was for our quarterly Family Sunday and was based upon John 1:4-5, 9. Having the children in the adult service meant he wanted to keep his points simple and understandable for all ages. Jay shared three basic truths that are illuminated by the hope that came through Jesus’ birth.
God is here.
Truth is real.
Life is ours.
Jay asked for the room to be darkened and had us pull out our phones and use our flashlight apps to light up the area. He said that if he asked us to go out and shine our flashlight apps in people’s faces that some would laugh at us and some would be annoyed, but they would still see the light. Then Jay pointed out that if we go out and shine the light of Jesus some people will laugh at us and some will be annoyed, but they will still see the light.
