I Tried It: Pinterest Recipes – Harvest Pizza

Since we’ve had a couple of desserts I thought it was time to find something of substance for this installment of the “I Tried It: Pinterest Recipes” series. I found this recipe at A Mom’s Take. What really caught my eye wasn’t the recipe so much as the cheese cut-outs. We don’t do “undead” at our house, so I thought pumpkins would be fun instead.

My homemade pizza is popular with my kids, and since they were both home to enjoy it, I made my favorite homemade crust. I improved the nutritional value of the crust by using half wheat flour and kept the pizza less greasy and more “harvest-y” by topping it with venison (It’s nice to have friends who hunt!), red onions, and three kinds of cheese.

I wanted to make the pizza from what I had on hand and the only sliced cheese in the house was American. So I went with it! My husband and daughter thought it was great but my son wasn’t impressed. I cut the pumpkin shapes one at a time using a cookie cutter.

This deep-dish delicacy baked for about 20 minutes at 400 degrees. The crust browned beautifully, the cheese melted evenly, the pumpkins were cute, and it tasted GOOD.

So if you want to jazz up a family pizza night, wish someone a happy birthday, or put a theme on your pizza, cookie cutters and cheese slices will do the trick!

What theme or shapes would you want to put on a pizza?
