My husband preached yesterday from Matthew 7:21-23 about the nature of our relationship with Jesus. He pointed out that many of us have a “celebrity” relationship with the Lord, where we are the celebrities and Jesus is supposed to be our fan. We act as though we can play a part and do good things to impress Him so He’ll like us and let us into heaven.
But Jesus said if we do miraculously good things but do not connect to Him we are doing life the wrong way.
We don’t do good things and hope that by them we become good people. We allow Jesus to transform our hearts into His goodness and out of that relationship we begin to do good things in God’s will.
To “fake it” is to risk hearing Jesus say, “I never knew you.” (Matthew 7:23)
